Our mission
statement is simple - the elimination of lung cancer as a life-threatening
illness via a cure or sufficient treatment options to provide a
high-quality of life and management of the disease as a chronic
condition.
What We
Plan to Do
The Gail P.
Ramos Lung Cancer Foundation is committed to driving down the number
of cases and deaths from lung cancer. To this end, we will do the
following:
Raise funds
for research - The majority of our expenditures will be to fund
medical research deemed appropriate by a committee of experts in
oncology and integrated medicine. We will solicit research funding
requests from entities engaged in lung cancer research and evaluate
those requests on a strict set of criteria before disbursing funds.
Develop educational
programs - Prevention is a critical part of our efforts. Educating
people about the dangers of smoking and other environmental hazards
will be done through the development of educational literature,
school presentations, speaker events and other outreach programs.
Provide assistance
to those affected - For patients, our staff and website will educate
them about conventional and alternative treatment options depending
on the patient's particular situation. We will set up support groups
in local communities to provide support for lung cancer victims.
As funds permit, we will provide transportation assistance and subsidies
for those undergoing treatment. Since lung cancer can impact entire
families in addition to the patient, we will provide college scholarships
to the children of those affected by this disease.
All of these
initiatives will be funded through donations from private individuals
and corporate contributions. It is our intention to direct as much
of our proceeds as possible back to our programs. Our long-term
goal is to keep expenses at or below 10% of our donation proceeds.
